subject semester classification
Bachelor programs of the WiSo Faculty
If your previous course of study is not identical to the course of study desired at the WiSo Faculty, you will be classified as a lateral entrant as described here. In this case, you must submit a semester classification in addition to the certificate of lateral entry to the Registrar's Office/International Office as part of your application for a higher semester.
Applications for classification into a higher semester based on examination results obtained at other faculties of the University of Cologne or at other universities must be received in full (i.e. including application for credit and overview of achievements) by the Examination Office no later than eight weeks before the application deadline for the higher semester of the Student Secretariat/International Office. Applications for subject semester classification based on examination results obtained at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne must be received in full by the Examinations Office at the latest four weeks before the application deadline for the higher subject semester of the Student Secretariat/International Office. In the case of applications submitted late, completion by the end of the application deadlines of the Student Secretariat/International Office cannot be guaranteed.
You apply for the subject semester classification with this form. Other, informal applications cannot be considered. The application must also be accompanied by the following documents:
-
Sealed or digitally verifiable transcript of records from the previous degree program (not required for students changing programs within the WiSo faculty).
-
Application for recognition generated by the WiSo credit transfer center (not necessary for students changing programs within the WiSo faculty). If you are already studying at the University of Cologne but at another faculty, please use the function "create final application" to create your application. A prior registration in the database is not necessary. Students of other universities use the function "Fachsemestereinstufung" for this purpose. When registering in the database, please enter the following number as the registration code: 9726732.
The application and any other necessary documents can all be submitted in digital form via the WiSo credit center.
If you are simultaneously submitting an application for classification as a change of location or lateral entry, this can also be submitted via the WiSo credit center along with the other documents.
After completion of the examination for possible recognition of the achievements you have made so far, you will receive a certificate stating in which semester you will be placed based on the recognition situation. However, you will not receive any information about which achievements can be recognized in detail.
Please note that achievements assigned to Studium Integrale cannot be used for subject semester classification.
The classification is made according to this overview:
Extent of recognizable ECTS | Semester |
0 ECTS - 14 ECTS | 1st semester |
15 ECTS - 44 ECTS | 2nd semester |
45 ECTS - 74 ECTS | 3rd semester |
75 ECTS - 104 ECTS | 4th semester |
105 ECTS - 135 ECTS | 5th semester |
from 135 ECTS | 6th semester |
This certificate must be submitted together with the certificate of classification as a lateral entrant as part of your application for a higher semester within the deadlines set by the Registrar's Office/International Office. After successful enrollment, you must also submit a final application for recognition to the Examination Office.
Students changing their program of study within the WiSo faculty should also refer to the information deposited here.
