Module Examination Registration

AI generated image

For examinations of courses without a participant limit (usually lectures), you register via the module examination. You can recognise the lack of participant restrictions by the fact that the course has 9999 places. You do not need a fixed place for this course to register for the exam. Follow the instructions below to successfully register for a module examination.

There are several ways to register for an exam:

  1. Via the study programme tree on the right-hand side (recommended for the desktop view).
  2. Via the new schedule tool (bookmark). To do this, you must first mark modules and examinations that you will/would like to take during your degree programme. Please see the instructions of the central KLIPS support on organising bookmarked courses/examinations.
  3. Via the study programme areas if you scroll further down (recommended for mobile devices).

Note: Depending on your personal preference, you can use the study programme tree or go via the study programme areas, regardless of whether you are using a mobile device or a desktop. Below we present the way via the study programme tree on the desktop, which technically works just as well on a mobile device.

The path via the study programme areas is shown in the following (3).

For example, we would like to register for the exam of the SuM Current Topics in Economics in the Business Administration specialisation of the Economics Bachelor's degree programme. To do this, we click through to the module examination: My studies >> Specialisation Section >> Specialisation Business Administration >> Elective Specialisation Business Administration III >> Compulsory Elective Area ("Wahlpflichtbereich") >> SuM Current Topics in Economics >> Module Examination (note: the German module titles sometimes apear in KLIPS; EM = SuM).

Note: Selecting the module examination at this point is the central difference to the course examination.

Four courses are included in the SuM Current Topics in Economics. However, only one exam can be taken for one course within this module. Accordingly, the correct exam must be selected: either via the list view by clicking on the module name or via the slider. Please note our recommendation for the clearer list view. In the example, we go to the list view and scroll to the correct exam.

Here we can see all the important information about the exam at a glance. We can also see the registration and de-registration deadlines.

Important: Once the deadline has passed, it is no longer possible to register for or deregister from an exam.

In the fold-out information field, we can see the name of the course for which we want to register.

Advice: Always look at the additional information each time you register for an examination - regardless of the registration type.

Click on ‘Go to exam registration’.

Check the curriculum context if the module can be selected in different areas of your degree programme. By registering for the examination, you are committing yourself to the respective area. In our example, this would be the Business Administration specialisation instead of the Social Sciences specialisation. Please note our explanation of the curriculum context and the technical specification.

Finally, click on ‘Register’ to complete the exam registration. Two message windows will appear if the exam registration was successful.

Tips for a Successful Study Organisation

Use the calendar as a reminder: Enter all registration and de-registration deadlines for exams in your private calendar immediately after you have been allocated a fixed place. Electronic calendars with push notifications help you not to miss any important deadlines.

Individual exam registration: You have to register for each exam yourself. A fixed place in a course does not mean that you are automatically registered for the exam.

Do not exhaust deadlines: Register or deregister in good time - do not wait until the last minute. Technical problems such as internet failure or device errors can otherwise lead to deadlines being missed. It is not possible to register or deregister after the deadline.

Plan your examination phase early: Many modules offer alternative examination dates in the same semester. Use these to organise your examination phase individually - whether compact or with longer intervals. Please note: These are not resit dates, but options. It is not intended to take both dates in one semester.

Check registration: After each examination registration, check in the system whether you have registered for the desired and correct examination date (under ‘Examination dates’). You can also visually check whether exam dates overlap in the schedule planner in KLIPS.

Know the difference between a module and a course: A module can contain several courses. Example 1: the BM Mathematics has the courses lecture, tutorial and tutorial, which must be taken individually. Module (CM Mathematics) and lecture (Mathematical Methods) also have different titles in this example; in some modules, however, the module and course titles are identical. Example 2: A module can have several seminars as courses. You have the choice and must complete a distinct number of lecture in order to complete the module - not all of them.
