The Study Abroad Programme (STAP) provides an opportunity for a single-term stay at one of the WiSo Faculty's partner universities. STAP participants benefit from direct contact and organisational support at the partner university and are exempt from paying tuition fees there. As one of the very few German institutions to have been awarded the EQUIS label and the only German member of the exclusive PIM and CEMS networks, we are able to offer exchange opportunities with top ranked universities worldwide.

STAP options for your Master programme (Applicant Group Business & Economics)
STAP application and selection rounds
Master students should plan their application for a term abroad at the beginning of their master course. On the STAP programme, they can spend either the fall term or the spring term abroad. The main selection process takes place once a year, with a lead time of about one to one and a half years, i.e. application in fall for a stay abroad during the following academic year (either fall or spring).
Master students should submit their STAP application by 15 January of the first year of their master degree when the main selection round takes place.
(As an exception, if a certain number of slots are still available for spring, a secondary STAP selection round will be offered in May.)
Selection process
The selection process will start in December (or April, if a secondary selection round – with a very reduced number of places – is offered) and will be run through the WEX International Outgoings Portal. Applicants may list up to five universities in their application. A detailed description of the selection process and the required application documents (please pay special attention to the required English certificates) is given in the STAP Master Application Manual available under "Downloads" on this page.
Selection criteria
ZIB WiSo ranks the applicants in the current STAP application round based on their application documents. This ranking is the basis for admission or refusal and allocation to the applicant's preferred partner university. For more detailed information on the selection criteria, please see the STAP Master Application Manual available under "Downloads" on this page.
Key dates in the selection process
Application period main selection round: 1 December - 15 January
Application period secondary selection round: 1 May - 15 June (does not take place every year!)
Credit transfer
The WiSo Faculty has put a lot of emphasis on internationalisation in the design of its master courses. They each include a "Studies Abroad" module, with a broad range of courses suitable for credit transfer. In addition, a single course-to-course credit transfer can be considered. For more information on credit transfer rules and regulations, please go to WiSo Credit Transfer Center > Our Services > Studies Abroad.
Additional information
Instructions on how to use the WEX International Outgoings Portal are given in the STAP Master Application Manual available under "Downloads" on this page.
It is also a good idea to attend the information session offered during the Master Welcome Days in October and the other information sessions offered each year. Should you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the ZIB exchange coordinator for master students.

Students wishing to organise their semester abroad themselves can do so as a freemover. In addition to a semester abroad, you can enrich your studies by taking part in one of our short programmes such as WiSo@NYC or a summer school abroad, or complete an internship abroad with financial support offered by Erasmus.
