Bachelor of Science
Programme Structure: Economics Bachelor - Electives (ER 2007)
For reasons of clarity, electives are divided into four areas: Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences and an interdisciplinary section. Each of the four areas is divided into separate profile groups worth 12 credit points, which consist of individual modules. Students must select two profile groups from this very diverse programme. This enables students to gain more specialised knowledge in their chosen areas relative to their major or minor, or to tap into other areas of the economic and social sciences.

1 Die Profilgruppe ist nur in den Studiengängen Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Wirtschaftsinformatik wählbar.
2 Diese Profilgruppe wird an ausländischen Hochschulen oder im Rahmen einer von der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät organisierten Summer School studiert.
3 Wurde das Modul "Angewandte Ökonometrie" im Bereich Methoden und Nachbargebiete bereits erfolgreich absolviert, darf das Modul in dieser Profilgruppe nicht mehr belegt werden.
4 Die Profilgruppe ist nicht in Kombination mit dem Nebenfach Sozialpsychologie wählbar.
5 Die Profilgruppe kann nur gemäß den Regelungen in §§ 16, 17 und 18 zugewiesen werden. Eine freie Wahl dieser Profilgruppe ist nicht möglich ("Auffangprofilgruppe"). Das spezifische Angebot entnehemn Sie bitte dem Vorlesungsverzeichnis in KLIPS.

Further information and advice
If you are planning an exchange term during your studies, please take the following factors into consideration: as a general rule, you must complete the profile groups between the fourth and the sixth term of your studies. If you choose to do an exchange term, this leaves you only two terms for profile groups at the University of Cologne. Please take the cycles of the required modules into consideration when planning your studies. (For example: If you decide to go abroad in your fifth term and this is a fall term, you only have two spring terms for your profile group(s) at the University.) We will be happy to advise you on how to plan your degree.
Recommendation
The profile groups for your electives should only be taken in the second half of your course, once you have developed a better grasp of your major and minor subjects.
Students select a specialisation by registering for an examination in that specialisation. Their selected specialisation remains valid even if they withdraw from the examination for that specialisation before the specified deadline. Students who fail an examination may change specialisation once, by applying to do so, provided they have not been awarded 60 (or more) minus points (‘Maluspunkte’) for the failed examination.
When planning their studies, students must be clear about the main and subsidiary subject modules they should have taken before choosing a specialisation and when the modules within the specialisations are available. This will enable them to study their chosen specialisations without any delay.
