Starting a career with a disability, chronic illness or neurodivergence - tips and experiences from and with myAbility
myAbility is a social enterprise that campaigns throughout the German-speaking world for an equal opportunities and barrier-free society, with a focus on inclusion in the world of work and business. The inclusive job platform www.myAbility.jobs was created in 2009.
Initially a funded project, it is now the largest of its kind in Germany, with several thousand regular jobs advertised by companies and organisations that are open to interviews.
The aim of myAbility is to bring companies closer to the potential of people with disabilities or chronic illnesses - visible or invisible, physical or mental - as well as people with neurodivergent backgrounds as employees and customers, so that they are seen and can fulfil their potential. Mutual openness, eye-to-eye encounters and thinking in terms of skills and solutions are essential cornerstones for #CareerWithoutBarriers.
myAbility accompanies companies along their path to an inclusive corporate culture and supports students and graduates in their entry into professional life with the job portal and the myAbility Talent® programme www.myAbilityTalent.org.
Today's speaker, Ms Stefanie Kirwald, lives with a chronic illness herself and shares tips and experiences on starting a career from her everyday working life as well as from her personal CV. Here is her interview as an alumna of the WiSo faculty of our university: https://wiso.uni-koeln.de/de/praxis/wisoalumni/wiso-alumni-im-interview/stefanie-kirwald.
