Teaching

The media city of Cologne offers a host of opportunities to convey Media Management in a very practice-related way. The subject’s great popularity with students underscores its capacity for imparting the requisite knowledge background for later professional careers.

Media Management as a course of study deals with all aspects involved in the management of traditional and innovative media enterprises as well as with the use of classic and modern media in all manner of businesses. Media are analysed as an economic factor from institutional and functional perspectives.

The main institutional focus is on classic media enterprises, in particular publishing and broadcasting companies (TV and radio). Themes such as corporate management and competitiveness play a major role here, as do the financing, regulation and distribution of media products. Another key thematic block revolves round the management of digital media goods and services. The functional aspect is investigated with a view to media utilization in all lines of business. E-business or knowledge management are only two of the important and widely recognized key terms that illustrate the economic changes wrought by the new media.
