Virtual ReStart Talk of the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy
EVENT INVITATION: Virtual ReStart Talk with Prof. Regina Riphahn / Subsidized Small Jobs and the Labor Market Success of Young Mothers
Dear students,
In 2024, the gender pay gap in Germany stood at 16%. A significant part of the labor market inequality between men and women arises with the birth of children, after which mothers take longer and more frequent breaks from employment. Are mini-jobs in this context a career springboard, allowing young mothers to stay connected to the labor market early after the birth of a child? Or are they more of a dead end, drawing young mothers into lower-skilled jobs with fewer opportunities for advancement?
Prof. Regina Riphahn from the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nürnberg will explore these questions on 13th May 2025 as part of the virtual ReStart Talk of the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy. She will take a comprehensive look at the role of marginal employment, so-called mini-jobs, for the labor market success and careers of young mothers.
The event “Subsidized Small Jobs and the Labor Market Success of Young Mothers” will be held in German and take place online. The lecture will be followed by a discussion.
With the ReStart lecture series, ECONtribute places a special focus on gender equality topics. Several times a year, experts from the cluster and high-profile guests present lectures on various aspects of gender equality to a broad audience of academics and interested members of the public. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to discuss the topics in greater depth and to establish new networks in a virtual space.
Details of the program:
Time: 13th May 2025, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. (lecture incl. discussion)
Place: Online via Zoom
