Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Anna Burmeister, who secured an impressive 69th place in the WirtschaftsWoche ranking of “Rising Stars in Business Administration.” Anna Burmeister, Professor of Organisational Behaviour, continues the tradition of strong placements achieved by young researchers at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo Faculty) of the University of Cologne in this leading research ranking for the German-speaking region.
But the WiSo‘s success is not limited to the category of top researchers under 40. Once again, WiSo researchers have achieved remarkable results in 2024. Among the top business administration researchers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (evaluated for the five-year period from 2020 to 2024), three members of the WiSo Faculty have been recognised: Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ketter (13th place), Prof. Dr. Dirk Sliwka (73rd place), and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Thonemann, PhD (81st place). This biennial ranking has seen a particularly notable rise for Professor Ketter, who now ranks near the top ten. As the head of the “Information Systems for Sustainable Society” institute, he continues to make a significant impact.
“Who are the most research-productive business administration scholars in the German-speaking region?” This is the guiding question of the WirtschaftsWoche research ranking, including its “Lifetime Achievement” category. The WiSo Faculty is impressively represented here with ten researchers. In addition to Ulrich Thonemann (35th place) and Dirk Sliwka (46th place), the WiSo top ten is completed by Prof. Werner Reinartz, PhD, marketing strategy expert (61st place); Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ketter (78th place); Prof. Dr. Christoph Rosenkranz (84th place); Prof. Dr. Detlef Schoder (115th place); Prof. Dr. Franziska Völckner (150th place); Prof. Dr. Alexander Kempf (167th place); Prof. Dr. Marc Fischer (170th place); and Prof. Dr. Bernd Irlenbusch (195th place).
The WirtschaftsWoche Business Administration Research Ranking is based on publications by scholars in the field of business administration at university faculties as well as at Fraunhofer and Max Planck institutes in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It is compiled by the KOF Swiss Economic Institute at ETH Zurich for WirtschaftsWoche. Overall, the WiSo Faculty ranks an impressive fourth among the most research-productive business administration faculties in the German-speaking region (D-A-CH), following the University of St. Gallen, the University of Zurich, and the Technical University of Munich. We extend our gratitude to all members and partners of the faculty who have contributed to this success and warmly congratulate all accomplished researchers.
