Our society is becoming increasingly political – reaching into everyday life and even into personal relationships. Narratives play a central role in this, just as they do in the context of economic decisions and behaviours. Social media also has an increasing influence in these processes. These developments impressively demonstrate how important academic research is in helping us understand the dynamics of modern societies – and in laying a foundation that enables individuals and societies to successfully face the challenges of our time.
We are therefore especially pleased that the University of Cologne has awarded WiSo Professor Christopher Roth (Chair of Economics & Management) the Hans Kelsen Prize, and PD Dr Ansgar Hudde (Department of Sociology and Social Psychology) the Hans Kelsen Prize for Early Career Researchers.
The Hans Kelsen Prizes form part of the Research Prizes awarded by the University of Cologne to honour outstanding research in the field of law and economics. They are part of the Excellent Research Support Programme and endowed with €60,000 (main prize) and €30,000 (early career prize) respectively, for a period of two years. “The University of Cologne is convinced that individual academic excellence is the core of scientific progress – and should therefore be especially supported and recognised,” said Prof. Dr Joybrato Mukherjee, Rector of the University of Cologne.
In addition to the Hans Kelsen Prize, the University of Cologne also awards the Max Delbrück Prize for outstanding achievements in the natural and life sciences and the Leo Spitzer Prize for exceptional research in the humanities each year.
