Welcome to the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne! We are pleased to introduce our new junior professor in the field of Finance. Dr Benedikt Ballensiefen will fill the junior professorship for Investments at the Centre for Financial Research (CFR) from November 1st, 2024.
As a financial economist from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and the World Bank, he brings valuable expertise in the areas of asset pricing, monetary policy, and market structure. In his dissertation entitled ‘Essays on Short-Term Funding Markets’, he provides important insights into the dynamics of financial markets. Ballensiefen also has international experience, including a fellowship with the World Bank Group in the USA focusing on the development of financial markets, which was awarded to him by the German government.
His academic work has been published in leading academic journals such as The Review of Financial Studies and The Review of Asset Pricing Studies. He has also presented his work at prestigious conferences, including the annual meetings of the American Economic Association, American Finance Association, and European Finance Association. These achievements demonstrate his commitment to research and his ability to analyse and communicate complex financial issues.
The Junior Professorship for Investments at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne was initiated by the Centre for Financial Research (www.cfr-cologne.de) - a research institute at the University of Cologne that focuses in particular on asset management and sustainable finance. It was established in 2009 to strengthen research in these socially important areas in Cologne and has since been financially supported by the Fördergesellschaft Finanzmarktforschung e.V., a broad alliance of renowned institutes in the financial sector.
We are very pleased to have gained Dr Ballensiefen, a promising young scientist who will enrich our faculty in research and teaching with his research expertise and experience from his work at the World Bank. We are convinced that he will be a wonderful addition to our ranks. Welcome to the team!
