Congratulations to Werner Reinartz for receiving the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2023!

Prof. Dr. Reinartz

The European Marketing Academy (EMAC) has announced that WiSo professor Werner Reinartz will receive the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2023. This is the highest award of EMAC, the most prominent European association in the field of marketing theory and research. As a professor of marketing at the WiSo Faculty, he will be honoured, EMAC stated, for his outstanding academic achievements in the field of marketing, which are reflected in extensive, impactful research contributions, and for his outstanding contributions to the European Marketing Academy. The decision of the award committee was unanimous. The award will be officially presented at the upcoming EMAC conference, which will take place in Odense, Denmark, from 23 to 26 May 2023.

With Werner Reinartz, the EMAC honours one of the leading academic voices in the field of interaction between companies and their customers, according to (not only) the jury's statement. He has delivered outstanding research results so far, not least in the area of the interface of CRM, digital marketing, retail and advertising. Professor Reinartz pays particular attention to the question of how companies can compete successfully in mature markets, to the efficiency and effectiveness of the marketing mix and to the successful management of lasting, profitable customer relationships.

Werner Reinartz's outstanding scientific achievements in the field of marketing are documented by publications in renowned journals such as the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research and the Journal of Consumer Research. He also presents his findings to practitioners, for instance in leading public journals such as the Harvard Business Review. According to Google Scholar, his articles have been cited more than 20,000 times. Among his previous awards, EMAC highlights the following: the Lehmann Award, the two-time Paul Root/MSI Award, the J.B. Steenkamp Award for long term impact and the Varadarajan AMA early career award.

His teaching has made an impression not only at EMAC. He has taught for all academic degrees (BSc., MSc., Ph.D., Executive) in Marketing Introduction, Distribution Channel Management, Customer Relationship Management, Strategic Management in Retailing, Retail Marketing, Direct and Database Marketing, Internet Marketing, Marketing Strategy and Customer Management.

As an outstanding contribution to EMAC (second criterion for the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2023), the Academy emphasises that he has been strongly involved in the association. His identification with EMAC is exemplary, for instance in leading many EMAC special sessions and the Doctoral consortium. In addition, he was co-editor of the International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM), EMAC's flagship journal, from 2018 to 2021.

In the wording the jury states: „Given his highly creative and novel research contributions, high impact and translation of his thought leadership to a wider audience, his substantial contributions to IJRM and EMAC, along with his exceptional service to the marketing community at large, Professor Werner Reinartz fully merits the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award.”

We can only concur with this and congratulate Professor Reinartz warmly and with a certain pride.
