We welcome junior professor Dr Florian Sachs!

New member of the WiSo Faculty

Professores Marita jacob und Florian Sachs schütteln sich die Hände, gemeinsam Florian Sachs Ernennenungsurkunde haltend

We are happy about a new face at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne! Since 1 March, Florian Sachs is Junior Professor for Supply Chain Analytics. On behalf of the entire faculty, Vice Dean of Academic Career Prof. Dr Marita Jacob now welcomed Professor Sachs to WiSo.

With Florian Sachs the first doctoral student of the Center for Digital Transformation at the Heilbronn Campus of the Technical University of Munich now joins WiSo. In Heilbronn he completed his doctorate in Operations Management with the topic "Integrated Planning of Unreliable Flow Lines with Limited Buffer Capacities and Spare Parts Provisioning" (so the title of his dissertation). Based on the analysis of unreliable production systems he quantified the savings potential of an integrated planning approach in which spare parts stocking and production system set-up are planned simultaneously - rather than sequentially as was common previously. A research approach with a practical orientation that fits almost ideally into the WiSo Faculty’s motto "Today's Ideas. Tomorrow's Impact".

2017 Florian Sachs had completed his studies in mathematics (majoring in business mathematics) at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, where he also gained experience as a research assistant at the Chair of Economic Policy and the Chair of Operations Management. Between 2016 and 2020, he headed the Magdeburg Experimental Laboratory of Economic Research.

We join Professor Jacob. We are very pleased to welcome  Professor Sachs, a young and respected researcher at the Supply Chain Management Area of the WiSo Faculty, whose experience will also benefit the teaching in our Master's programme Business Administration - Supply Chain Management. We wish him all the best for his start at the WiSo!
