UoC graduates celebrate global CEMS MIM graduation in Bergen

Saturday 7 December was the day of the prestigious CEMS MIM Global Graduation Ceremony, hosted this year by the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in Bergen. 28 of the 36 graduates of the CEMS MIM programme at the University of Cologne travelled to Bergen, Norway to attend the CEMS Global Graduation Ceremony. 600 CEMS MIM students from 33 leading international business schools were also in attendance.

During their CEMS MIM studies, students attend two of the 33 leading business schools of the CEMS Alliance, which is represented on every inhabited continent. The graduation ceremony and celebrations were part of the CEMS Annual Events (4-7 December) in Bergen.

CEMS was founded to enable management education to contribute to the building of bridges across all borders and boundaries and the CEMS Master in International Management is consistently ranked as one of the top MiMs in the world. This year 1,100 students from 60 nationalities successfully completed the CEMS MIM.

The Annual Events & CEMS MIM Graduation Ceremony is a dynamic gathering of CEMS students, faculty and corporate partners, featuring interactive discussions, workshops and global networking opportunities. This year Bergen, located on the west coast of Norway, offered a fascinating blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage as a backdrop.

Professor Lars Strannegard re-elected CEMS Chair

Professor Lars Strannegard, President of the Stockholm School of Economics, was elected as CEMS Chair for a second two-year mandate.  Professor Strannegard was originally elected Chair in 2023, having already served for two years as the Alliance’s Deputy Chair.

Professor Strannegard said: “CEMS is a testament to the power of global collaboration, where excellence, curiosity, and a shared vision for a better world come together. We remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering leaders who are not only intellectually agile but also attuned to the complexities of a rapidly changing world. Our graduates embody the spirit of collaboration across borders, cultures, and industries, leveraging diverse perspectives to tackle global challenges with clarity, creativity, and compassion.”

Professor Sherif Kamel, Dean of the American University in Cairo Business School was nominated to serve as Deputy-Chair of the Alliance for a second two-year mandate.

CEMS is a global network of 33 of the world’s top business schools, more than 70 corporate partners (multinational companies) and 8 social partners (NGOs), dedicated to educating and preparing future generations of international business leaders, through the CEMS Master in International Management (MIM).

The CEMS’ MIM emphasises personal and social responsibility in business decision-making, leadership and citizenship, informed by ethical reasoning, personal integrity, and respect for social diversity. The programme helps students understand and navigate the international business environment, whilst equipping them with the knowledge, skills and network to manage people across borders and within multinational teams, tackling real business issues across a range of fields.
