In the current AIS 8 ranking of the Association of Information Systems, the Cologne Institute for Information Systems (CIIS) takes first place in academic research in German-speaking countries. And the Cologne Institute for Information Systems also stands out in a European comparison: The CIIS shares third place with the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, and the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Globally, the institute is ranked 33rd as of January 2022, making it one of the top 100. The ranking was based on the number of research publications in eight leading academic journals in the field of business informatics from 2018 to 2022.
The CIIS, research centre of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne, unites research groups around Professors Peter Gloor, Wolf Ketter, Christoph Rosenkranz, Detlef Schoder, Stefan Seidel and Markus Weinmann - with research topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation, Digital Innovation and Sustainability. Since its founding, it has been one of the top-ranked research institutions in business informatics worldwide.
Students also have access to a wide range of courses at the institute, for example via the master's degree programme "Information Systems". This follows an interdisciplinary approach with three focal points: Business Analytics and Data Science, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Digital Sustainable Society. The range of courses was recently complemented by the Master's programme "Business Analytics & Econometrics", which comprises a unique mix of traditional analytics (e.g. statistics, econometrics, optimisation, simulation) and modern analytical approaches (e.g. machine learning and artificial intelligence). The study programme at CIIS not only provides students with practical and theoretical tools to address current societal challenges in business, society and research but also excellent career prospects.
Congratulations on the outstanding ranking!
