New Professor for Information Systems at WiSo

We welcome Prof. Dr Stefan Seidel

Prof. Dr. Seidel schüttelt lächeln dem WiSo-Dekan Thonemann die Hand

Good news for the WiSo: Prof. Dr Stefan Seidel has accepted a call to the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne. As of January 1, 2023, he will hold the professorship for Information Systems at the Cologne Institute for Information Systems (KIWI). On behalf of the entire faculty, WiSo Dean Ulrich Thonemann welcomed Professor Seidel. We are pleased to have gained a renowned researcher and university lecturer in the field of business informatics for the WiSo Faculty.

Prof. Dr Stefan Seidel's research focus to date has been in the areas of Digital Innovation, Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence. His work has been published in renowned journals such as Management Information Systems Quarterly, Information Systems Research and the Journal of Management Information Systems. In addition, he is an Associate Editor of the Management Information Systems Quarterly. Prof. Dr. Stefan Seidel has already received numerous awards for his publications. These include the AIS Best Information Systems Publications Award 2019 for the paper "Design principles for sensemaking support systems in environmental sustainability transformations", the best paper award at the International Conference of Information Systems (ICIS) 2015 and the Liechtenstein Prize for Junior Researchers.

Creativity was already evident in the title of Stefans Seidel's doctoral thesis (Dr. rer. pol.) on "A Theory of Managing Creativity-intensive Processes" at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, where he had already earned his Master of Science in Information Systems (MScIS). In Münster, Dr. Seidel then worked as a research associate at the European Research Center for Information Systems. He completed his Habilitation and Venia Legendi at the University of Lichtenstein. He gained extensive experience in research and teaching as an Associated Researcher at the ARC Center of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCi) Australia, as Professor of Information Systems and Innovation at the University of Liechtenstein, and as Honorary Professor of Business Information Systems at the National University of Ireland.
