Economics experts discuss current developments and trends

EEA - ESEM

From 27 to 31 August 2018, the annual congress of the European Economic Association (EEA) and the Econometric Society - European Meeting (ESEM), one of the world's largest economics congresses, will take place at the University of Cologne. More than 1,400 economists from all over the world have registered for the congress to present the latest research results and discuss economic trends.

Some of the topics are:

  • What impact does the ECB's monetary policy have on the stability of banks and financial markets?
  • What opportunities and challenges arise from the new technical possibilities of large data and digital markets?
  • What significance and what influence do the mass media have on politics and the economy?
  • Is Europe an optimal political union?
  • How credible is research?

Appointment:
Monday, 27 August to Friday, 31 August
Campus University of Cologne, Albertus-Magnus-Platz

Professor Dr. Felix Bierbrauer, spokesman for economists at the University of Cologne is pleased to host the congress on campus this year: "We are looking forward to the EEA-ESEM Congress, which brings together international researchers in Cologne. We see this as a further confirmation to establish the Cologne/Bonn region as an outstanding research location in economics". The joint Reinhard Selten Institute was founded last year together with the Bonn economists as an important step in this direction. With the lunch session on "New Challenges, New Tools and New Objectives for Market Design and Public Policy", this institute will also set a focus of the congress, which reflects the topic of the Cluster of Excellence planned by the Universities of Cologne and Bonn.

Sponsors from the region, the IZA Institute of Labor Economics, Kreissparkasse Köln and Sparkasse KölnBonn, have made an attractive supporting programme possible.
