Today’s Ideas. Tomorrow‘s Impact. Many people work every day to bring this motto and claim of the WiSo Faculty of the University of Cologne to life. This elementarily includes, not least, relevant, cross-thematic, scientific research that makes a positive difference in the world.

Research achievements with impact are also attested to the WiSo Faculty in the current business administration ranking of the Wirtschaftswoche. The business magazine regularly asks "Who are currently the most research-prolific academics in the German-speaking world, the business professors with the most impressive life's work and the young stars of the guild?” The University of Cologne's answer can be confident.

In the ranking of current research output (measured by "publication output in the period from 2016 to August 2020"), Prof. Werner Reinartz, Ph.D. is in 32nd place, followed by Prof. Dr Wolfgang Ketter ranked 42nd. In both the current research performance and the lifetime achievement ranking, researchers from the faculty hold top positions, such as WiSo-Dean Ulrich Thonemann - in the lifetime achievement ranking in 30th place - Prof. Dr Dirk Sliwka (56th in the lifetime-ranking), Prof. Dr Christoph Rosenkranz (87), Prof. Dr Detlef Schoder (107), Prof. Dr Alexander Kempf (122), Prof. Dr Bernd Irlenbusch (145), Prof. Dr Marc Fischer (149), Prof. Dr Franziska Völckner (187) und Prof. Dr Carsten Homburg (242). In the ranking "The most research-intensive business economists under 40 in 2020", Prof. Dr Andreas Fügener is among the top 100.

We congratulate all the researchers mentioned and see ourselves confirmed in creating an ideal environment for effective top-level research for academics as one of the largest and most renowned faculties of economics and social sciences.

The ranking confirms the academic excellence of the WiSo Faculty. Building on over a hundred years of tradition, we believe we are well equipped to meet the challenges of the future. In the newly established four Key Research Initiatives, we will continue to promote joint research between the chairs and institutes of the WiSo Faculty, from which also our students will benefit - so that  ongoing "developing knowledge and people for a better world" will apply.
