Welcome to the WiSo-Faculty Prof. Dr. Thomas Leopold!

We cordially welcome Professor Thomas Leopold at the Institute for Sociology and Social Psychology (ISS).

On April 1, 2020 Prof. Dr. Thomas Leopold joined the WiSo Faculty of the University of Cologne to strengthen us in the Chair of Methods in Empirical Social Research, like the majority of all employees of the University of Cologne, currently still from the home office.

With Prof. Dr. Leopold, the WiSo Faculty gains a renowned researcher in the fields of social demography, family relations and life course research for the Institute of Sociology and Social Psychology. He brings to the Faculty the new project "KINMATRIX" ("Uncovering the Kinship Matrix: A New Study of Solidarity and Transmission in European Families"), funded by the European Research Council. “Data collected in this project will allow us to map out the family network in unprecedented scope and detail”, he says himself.

Prof. Dr. Leopold comes to Cologne from the position as associate professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam. He received his doctorate at the University of Bamberg. Furthermore, he had already gained experience at the European University Institute through a Max Weber Postdoc Fellowship.

We are pleased that the WiSo-Faculty has been able to attract a promising researcher in Professor Leopold and wish him a good start. We hope to be able to welcome him soon with a handshake!
