Welcome Prof. Dr. Markus Weinmann

The WiSo faculty has a new lecturer!

virtual handshake of Professores Markus Weinmann and Ulrich Thonemann

Since the beginning of July, the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne can look forward to a new lecturer. Prof. Dr. Markus Weinmann will support the "Business Analytics" department. His research focuses on "Business Analytics", in particular "Digital Business" and "Platform Economy". On behalf of the entire faculty, we warmly welcome our new member!

The professorship is made possible by the funding of the Gateway Excellence Start-Up Center (ESC) at the University of Cologne by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. With the Gateway ESC - and the professorships financed through it - the University of Cologne promotes entrepreneurial thinking and action in research-intensive subject areas. Prof. Dr. Weinmann's research focuses on the analysis of behavioral data in the context of the digital economy. He received his doctorate from the Technical University of Braunschweig and habilitated at the University of Liechtenstein. After further occupation from September 2019 to June 2021 at the renowned Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University), he now followed the call of the University of Cologne to the WiSo Faculty.

In his numerous publications in well-known research journals (Management Science, Marketing Science and MIS Quarterly) it becomes clear how Prof. Weinmann will help the faculty to realise its motto "Today's Ideas. Tomorrow's Impact.": To use digital data and traces to understand and predict the behavior of online users. His research can be applied in areas such as crowdfunding and crowdsourcing and is also regularly picked up by national and international media (Der Spiegel, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian). The resulting "impact" of making digital platforms better generates added value for companies and people.

We are very happy to welcome such a committed and motivated researcher to our faculty and wish him all the best for his further work at the WiSo Faculty.
