Good news for WiSo: Prof. Daniel Metzger has accepted the appointment to the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne. He will take up the professorship in finance on 1 March 2026. On behalf of the entire faculty, WiSo Dean Ulrich Thonemann welcomed Prof. Metzger. We are delighted to have gained a renowned researcher and university lecturer in the field of finance for the WiSo faculty.
Daniel Metzger's research interests lie at the interface between finance and labour market economics. He investigates how financial markets and financing decisions on the corporate side interact with labour market decisions. He is also interested in the financial education of managers and households, as well as entrepreneurship and innovation. His expertise ideally complements the finance area of the WiSo Faculty.
He has published his research findings in renowned journals such as the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Economic Studies.
He studied mathematics in Bonn and at the University of Warwick and economics at the University of Bonn and UC Berkeley. He received his doctorate in economics from the London School of Economics. His academic career took him from positions as assistant and associate professor at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) to a professorship in finance at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) before he moved to the University of Cologne as professor of finance. He is also affiliated with several research institutions, including the Financial Markets Group at the LSE, the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF), the Finance and Labour Group, the HKU Jockey Club and the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). In addition, he has been accepted as a faculty member in the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy.
Prof. Dr Daniel Metzger is also passionate about teaching and has been teaching bachelor's, master's, PhD and MBA courses at the LSE, SSE and RSM for several years now.
