Lea Ellwardt appointed to Heisenberg Professorship

ISS researcher in the programme for outstanding scientists.

Lea Ellwardt and Dean Thonemann shake hands.

Prof. Dr Lea Ellwardt has been appointed to a permanent professorship in Sociology at the University of Cologne, initially financed by the DFG within the framework of its Heisenberg Programme. On behalf of the entire faculty, WiSo Dean Prof. Ulrich Thonemann PhD congratulated her.

Lea Ellwardt has been a member of the WiSo faculty since 2014. As an assistant professor at the Institute of Sociology and Social Psychology (ISS), she was able to distinguish herself in research and teaching, including activities at the Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences.

In her Heisenberg project, she will investigate the association between social networks and well-being in old age, based on a primary data collection. The project fits harmoniously into her previous research interests, which further include organizational sociology and quantitative methods.

Before joining the WiSo faculty, Prof. Dr. Ellwardt graduated in Sociology at the TU Dresden (with distinction). After that, she spent eight years as doctoral and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, where she received her PhD in 2011. Her dissertation was entitled "Gossip in Organizations. A Social Network Study".

We are pleased to have won Lea Ellwardt, a dynamic and committed researcher and recognised university lecturer, as a permanent member of the WiSo and look forward to her further work.
