The Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo) of the University of Cologne congratulates the winners of the 2025 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Professor Philippe Aghion and Professor Peter Howitt were jointly honoured for the theory of economic growth through creative destruction. They share the prize with Professor Joel Mokyr, who was honoured for his work on prerequisites for sustained growth through technological progress.

We are delighted to add a personal message from Susanne Prantl, Professor of Economics at the WiSo Faculty: “Collaborating with Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt, two outstanding scholars and brilliant colleagues, has been very inspiring for me. I am extremely glad to see their groundbreaking research being rewarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.”
