Bringing urban traffic into balance

Those who used to take the 142 to university and WiSo may still remember. At rush hour, the bus is often so crowded that the doors barely close. Pressed tightly against the window, the view falls on the Innere Kanalstraße, where motorists struggle through dense traffic on three lanes, most of them alone in their cars.

Viewed abstractly, this is a manifest example of the mismanagement of available resources: for the overcrowded bus is contrasted by a multitude of simultaneous "empty runs" by individual cars. Even with a conservative estimate, on average about three seats per car remain empty.

As a graduate of the Master's programme Supply Chain Management, WiSo alumnus Wolfram Uerlich will not have found such considerations difficult. The founder and managing director of goFLUX Mobility GmbH reports on the business idea he developed from this in our current alumni interview.
