Progress Documentation

For every thesis (with the exception of the Master’s program in Economic Research), you are required to submit a progress documentation. The purpose of the progress documentation is to help you consciously reflect on your individual learning progress and the development of your academic performance. Furthermore, it is intended to promote independent work.

The progress documentation is based on at least one advisory meeting held during the period in which you are working on your thesis, and your participation in this meeting is mandatory. The date of this meeting is scheduled prior to your registration for the thesis and is reconfirmed by the examiners upon registration. To prepare for this meeting, you should draft an outline of your work that includes your arguments to date, your findings, and your planned next steps. During the consultation, the current status of the thesis, open questions, and guidance for further work will be discussed. Minutes of the consultation will be taken during the meeting and provided to you afterward. The consultation is intended solely to support and document the thesis process—it does not involve any evaluation.

Based on the counseling notes, you will prepare the progress documentation. This document describes your individual work process and reflects on your own learning progress. The progress documentation must be written in the same language as the thesis itself. The progress documentation must be submitted at the same time as the final thesis. To do so, the progress documentation must be attached to the final thesis. The PDF to be submitted should therefore contain the final thesis at the beginning and the progress documentation at the end. The progress documentation is graded as “pass” or “fail.” Only the grade for the final thesis itself counts toward the module grade.
