Job Shadowing@WiSo

Students/ Job Shadowers

WiSo Faculty students can spend a day accompanying an experienced professional (mostly WiSo alumni) at their place of work. They get to find out what the job involves, learn about the career prospects, check whether their own ideas about their future career correspond to real life and establish valuable contacts.

How it works

  • If you’re a student at the Wiso Faculty, you can send a short application letter (CV and 5-10 lines explaining why you’d like to participate in the scheme, including the job roles you’re interested in) to: careerservice(at)
  • The Alumni & Career Service team contacts suitable alumni to try and get the best possible match.
  • You and your alumnus host are given each other’s contact data so that you can agree a date for your job shadowing day.
  • Applications can be submitted at any time.
  • Please add the company name in the subject line of your email.

What happens on the day

The shadower introduces himself/herself, learns about the organisation’s processes, attends meetings, a guided tour round the company, observes the work involved, talks with the alumnus’ colleagues, finds out about the work currently being done, has an end-of-day review with the alumnus and receives feedback. Ideally, we would like to be able to offer job shadowing opportunities for all of the subjects offered by the WiSo Faculty.

Please note: Students taking part in the job shadowing scheme are not covered by the WiSo Faculty’s insurance, nor by the host company’s insurance. Any travel and accommodation expenses must be borne by the students themselves.
